What are the different types of garage floor tiles?

When it comes to garage floor tiles, there are four different types of garage floor tiles available for consumers. Each type of garage floor tile has its own advantages and disadvantages, so it's important to consider your specific needs and budget when choosing the best tile for your garage.

  • Peel and Stick Vinyl Tiles – Peel and stick garage floor tiles (also known as self-stick tiles) are a type of self-adhesive tile that is designed to be installed without the use of any special tools or adhesives. They are made of vinyl or PVC material and are typically square shaped with interlocking edges, allowing them to be easily connected to create a solid surface. Peel and stick garage floor tiles are popular because they are affordable, easy to install, and come in a variety of styles and colors. They are also durable and resistant to water, stains, and chemicals. However, it's important to note that they’re not as long-lasting or durable as other types of garage floor tiles, especially in high-traffic areas or under heavy loads.
  • Porcelain Garage Floor Tiles – Porcelain garage floor tiles are a type of high-quality tile that is made from porcelain clay and fired at a very high temperature to create a dense and durable material. Porcelain tiles are highly resistant to water, stains, and chemicals, making them a great choice for garage floors that may be exposed to oil spills or other liquids. They are also easy to clean and maintain and can be swept or mopped regularly to keep them looking new. However, the one drawback is that DIY installation is difficult as well unless you have experience. As a result, installation can be another high cost if you need to hire someone to do it for you, making this a more expensive choice for garage flooring.
  • Vinyl Composite Floor Tiles – Vinyl composite tile (also known as VCT) s a type of vinyl flooring that is commonly used in commercial and industrial settings but can also be used for garage floors. VCT is made from a mixture of vinyl, limestone, and other filler materials, and is known for its durability and low cost. However, it's important to note that VCT requires regular upkeep to maintain the clean appearance. Additionally, VCT can be slippery when wet, so it may not be the best choice for garages in wet climates.
  • Red Ribtrax Pro Tile Interlocking Floor Tiles – Interlocking garage floor tiles are a popular and convenient flooring option for those who want to transform their garage into a more functional and stylish space. These thick and rigid plastic tiles snap together via a peg and loop connection. Installation of interlocking garage floor tiles is also relatively easy and can typically be completed by a homeowner with basic DIY skills. As the name implies, the tiles are designed to interlock with one another, creating a secure and stable flooring surface. This eliminates the need for adhesives or special tools, which can save both time and money during installation. Surface options include a solid surface, or a ribbed top that allows for surface drainage. Solid surface options include diamond, coin, and viny inserts, where you can have it look like natural wood, or carbon fiber. The self-draining ribbed tiles are a popular choice for detail shops, both small and large, as they allow surface drainage for water, soap, dirt, and other liquids. One of the drawbacks of interlocking can be the cost of interlocking garage tiles is more expensive than other tiling options. There are affordable interlocking tiles for sale, but these are typically made overseas and not designed to the standard in the U.S., making for a less secure and weaker garage tile. That is why Swisstrax tiles are made right here in the U.S.A.

Overall, interlocking garage floor tiles are a durable, flexible, and customizable flooring option that can transform any garage into a functional and stylish space. Whether you are looking to improve the appearance of your garage or cover your garage floors with a more durable and long-lasting flooring option, interlocking garage floor tiles are a great choice.
